Why your grip could be costing you distance and accuracy By Matthew Turnock, PGA Teaching Professional, Mottram Hall
The importance of a sound GRIP should never be underestimated as it is one of the most fundamental aspects of a good set up, it can also be one of the most influential factors in determining your ability to create club head speed and control the club face for accuracy.
WHY? Depending on where the grip is positioned in the hands and the amount of GRIP PRESSURE employed it can influence:
• The amount of FLEXIBILITY and RANGE OF MOVEMENT in the hands. • Your ability to create CLUB HEAD SPEED via the hinging and releasing action of the wrists. • The control of the FACE ANGLE through impact.
Adam Scott ground out a long-overdue victory on Sunday at the PGA National in America. A topsy-turvy final round battle with Sergio Garcia culminated in Sergio birding the final hole to leave Scott with a putt for par and the title. Scott hasn't won an event since 2014, and in that time Spieth, McIlroy and Day have won 20 tournaments between them! Hopefully this victory will give Scott some confidence to go to battle with the young guns once again.
