On a weekly basis the Oulton Hall Golf Academy will provide our readers with a coaching blog. This week it's 'how to gain 10 yards in 10 minutes!
Is this really possible?
In my opinion absolutely yes for the vast majority of club golfers!
The holy grail of hitting the ball further is not as difficult as you may imagine, particularly now coaches haves tools like Trackman to identify the exact area people need to address in order to achieve this. Firstly we need to understand the key factors that determine how far the ball flies and rolls.
- Ball speed (the speed the ball leaves the golf cub at)
- Launch angle (the angle the ball leaves the club face at)
- Spin (The speed at which the ball is spinning around its axis as it leaves the club face).
The golfer can easily effect all three of the above and being able to optimise these is the key to longer distance, in addition wind, ball aerodynamics, temperature, air pressure and humidity all have an effect but obviously these are out of the golfer's control. So how can you achieve it? I'll deal with each of the three components separately.
