There is some argument over who first said this quote whether it was Einstein, Benjamin Franklin or Mark Twain, but there can be no argument about its validity!
Academy director Mark Pearson explain how this influences your practice.
My observations throughout a career in golf confirm this to me and I’m astounded at the number of golfers that are constantly frustrated with their performance and yet do nothing to change how they go about it. Is golf getting too old?
A shocking report by Sports Marketing Surveys (SMS INC), has uncovered a huge increase in the average age of golfers in the U.K and highlighted the importance of introducing and retaining young golfers to the wonderful game of golf. The report by SMS INC revealed that the average age of golfers who play once a week in the U.K has increased drastically from 48 in 2009 to 63 in 2014.
Dr Martin Toms who is a Senior Lecturer on Sports Coaching at the University of Birmingham attributes the increase to ‘increased economic pressures during the recession which have resulted in less disposable income for people to enjoy past times such as golf.’ The PGA Academy are fighting this age war and try to make the game more readily available for all ages no matter of their economic backgrounds.
