The key to Rory McIlroy’s power
Rory Mcilroy is unquestionably one of the most powerful golfers of the modern age, however standing at only 5ft 10" its a lot more that size and brute force that allows Rory to crush drives over 350 yards on a regular basis. Rory even managed a 436 yard drive on day 1 of the 2014 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
His power off the tee was a key element to his two major wins in 2014. The aim of this article is to shed some light on how Rory Mcilroy keeps up with the longest of hitters on the PGA tour even though he is 3.5 inch shorter and 26 pound lighter than the average.

Maximising performance on the golf course
One thing that I hear many times from players is that “I striped it on the range but I was all over the place on the course”. This is a problem with many golfers in that they cannot transfer their effort and time on the driving range into lower scores on the golf course.
I believe that the one problem here is that players have the wrong attentional focus on the course. “I was thinking about those drills on the course….just like I practiced on the driving range”. In this situation, we have to shift our attentional focus from internal to external.

FUEL Junior Competition 29th November 2014
Despite being November and huge amounts of rain the night before and the morning of the competition Oulton Hall was lucky to have a fine afternoon to host the loudest dressed golf competition. To match the bright weather we were treated to some wonderful golf from our 26 competitor’s over the Par 19 appropriate length course at Oulton Hall. The day saw three different age groups battling it out for the spoils, 6-8 years, 9-12 years and 13-16 years.
Before we get to the nitty gritty of the competition results, the FUEL Golf Programme would like to give a warm welcome to new academy members Thomas Scorah, Taylor Lloyd and James Waldron who played in their first competitions and displayed a huge amount of skill and sportsmanship and talent in their first event. It was wonderful to see them all on the first tee making new friends and hitting some beautiful shots throughout.
