What's your strike like?
Strike is a hugely important factor to the direction the ball starts, finishes and the curative that is imparted in the ball. On Trackman, even if the club path is 0.0and the face angle is 0.0 to the target line this can still produce a slice or a hook. This is due to the study of Gear effect.
What is Gear effect?
Gear effect is the term used to explain how and why hitting the ball everywhere other than the centre of the clubface changes the ball flight. When the ball is struck from somewhere other than the centre of the face, it causes the face to change its orientation and affects the spin. This is due to the fact that during impact the ball and face are enmeshed like two gears.

As Yoda once said “Do or do not, there is no try”
The year is 1980 – people have queued for hours to get in to the see the 3rd and what some might say should have been final film in the epic franchise – Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back. Little did George Lucas know that he was about to help millions of golfers around the world play better golf! And it has nothing to do with “The Force”.
The mind is a wonderful thing, it really is! The mind is young compared to the earth and in just a few short millennia it has gone from making fire to landing man on the moon! It has been responsible for things as as destructive as the Atom Bomb and things as life preserving as penicillin. But here’s the one thing it REALLY struggles with doing for itself. Creating certainty. It craves it, it yearns for it! Unfortunately it’s the first part of you to question if the decision you’ve made is right or wrong, thus creating the thing that it hates, uncertainty – oh the irony! Once the uncertainty is there, that’s where YOU need to step in to grab the mind by the scruff of the neck and give it the certainty that it wants so badly.

Do you understand bounce?
Acting like an insurance policy, one aspect of a wedge that is often misunderstood is the BOUNCE angle. In simple terms, the bounce angle of any club is designed to help with the club/ground interaction.
Most commonly discussed and with options in wedges from 48 degrees upwards, the bounce of a wedge is a very important aspect as different grass and sand conditions can make playing with the wrong bounce very difficult. An easy way to think about bounce is that lower bounce is preferred on hard ground whilst higher bounce is preferred on softer ground. Take a rock hard, wet English bunker. On this lie, the ball is effectively lying on a piece of concrete, providing a strong resistance to any part of the club entering the sand and lifting the ball out. In this situation, a high bounce club would be difficult to us as the club would want to “bounce” off the sand.
