Tips for the Masters
My tips for the Masters – By Lee Morrisroe
The Masters has now started and what a great first round it was. If you don't know, the Masters is the first major championship of the calendar year and if special because it's the only major championship that is held at the same venue every year, Augusta National in Georgia. For me, Augusta is the most prestigious, beautiful but dangerous golf course in the world.
Here our my selections for the week which after the first round are looking relatively strong.
My picks to win:
Rory Mcilroy – 5/1
The world number 1 golfer is the 5/1 favourite this week. The whole of the golfing world has their eyes fixated on whether Mcilroy is going to win 3 major championships in a row and emulate players such as Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nichlaus and Tiger Woods to be the only golfers ever to win the career grand slam (The Masters, The US Open, The Open and The US PGA). Mcilroy’s tee to green play couldn’t be better for the masters. His length off the tee with a slight draw which sets up perfectly for Augusta which favours the right to left ball flight. I would go as far to say that if Mcilroy emulates his usual ball striking putts well this week he is going to be near on impossible to beat. It comes down to, can he put the hype that surrounds him this week to one side and concentrate fully on the job at hand. He’s a cool customer, I think he can.
Jordan Spieth – 10/1
The 21 year old superstar that is Jordan Spieth has been in terrific form over the past few weeks. With a win and a 2nd placed finish in has last 2 PGA appearances. As I am writing this he is challenging for his next win on the PGA Tour. The confidence of this man is unbelievable and I have no doubt that he has the game and the bottle to take the green jacket if he gets the chance. He is currently ranked 5 in strokes gained putting and 8th in strokes gained tee to green on the PGA Tour so id be very surprised if he is far away.
