Great putting drills used by 2015 Masters Champion, Jordan Spieth
The 2015 Masters Champion, Jordan Spieth is currently one of the best putter on the plant at this moment in time. Putting arguably won him the Masters. He is currently ranked 4th in the world in stokes gained putting. In this article I am going to explain a couple of drills that Jordan uses to improve his short and long putting.
Drill 1
Jordan Spieth finds two holes that are a decent distance apart, around 40 feet. He places a club or an alignment stick 3 feet past the back edge of both holes. This is the safety zone that all putts must finish in if they don’t go in the hole. (He is confident he wont miss the returning putt from inside the zone)
Jordan starts the drill by putting 10 feet from one hole, which means he has a 30-foot putt to the second hole in this example.

Academy StartGolf Success’s
Congratulations to Peter Hampson and Jen Galley who won our StartGolf beginner competitions last sunday with scores of 42 and 43 respectively around our length appropriate golf course. Our StartGolf competitions run monthly and are designed to allow beginner golfers the opportunity to partake in a competitive, but friendly, game on the golf course with like minded people.
More importantly, our StartGolf on course activities are played on appropriate length courses. What is an appropriate length course? Take the average beginner who may only be able to hit a driver 150 yards. Is it really fair to expect this golfer to be playing a par 4 that measures 450 yards? I would argue no as in this scenario there is little chance of hitting the green in regulation or making a par and furthermore where is the fun in carding an 8 or 9. From a development prospective, it is also better to ‘get the feeling’ of scoring from an early stage for reasons that may help individuals in the future. An example of this would be when club golfers start shooting scores in and around level par. I have heard many stories were the nerves have kicked in and the round has not been finished off.

Spring Junior Update
Over the past term on the Future Elite (FUEL) Junior Golf Programme there has been an air of change. With the Spring bringing the warmer weather it has also brought the blossoming of the Oulton Hall Junior section and the start of the junior section getting out on the course. The FUEL Programme encourages children to play on the course as much as they possibly can and its been wonderful to see Oulton Hall’s junior membership rise from 6 to 132 in the past 12 months.
To encourage hard work and lots of play the FUEL Junior Golf Programme has devised a league system to recognise which juniors are playing and practicing and it is with great joy we can announce that Jake Wallis and Oliver Strang were the two credit winners last term with an astonishing 145 and 142 credits. Both junior golfers have shown a wonderful work ethic and will be presented with new putters for their fantastic achievements during the first week back at junior golf lessons on the FUEL Junior Golf Programme starting this week.
