Dear members,
We are now in to December and the culmination of another fantastic year! Firstly we would like to thank everyone for supporting our recent Black Friday sale, we sold plenty and we are looking forward to offering more incentives for you over the Christmas period - so keep an eye out!
Secondly, as you may have noticed since Paul's arrival we have been finding areas of improvement and tackling them head on, this week we touch on the members' locker rooms and there seems to be a very large amount of lockers that are constantly locked. We are more than happy for anyone entering our property to use the lockers during the day but belongings should be removed upon leaving the property for that day! We do not allow overnight storage in lockers unless special consent has been approved by the Paul the Director of Golf here. So, we would like to give all of our members the opportunity to clear any valuables out of the locker areas this weekend before we clear the remaining lockers out on Monday 7th December. Any remaining items will be collectable from the Golf Shop. Moving forwards we will clear the locker rooms on a daily basis so please clear your items same day to avoid this situation in the future - we would like to thank you in advance for your co-operation with this matter.
Finally, we have changed the date of our Members Christmas party to Friday 11th December in the Upper Claret Jug, arrival from 7pm including a festive drink and 3 course meal! For more details please click here, we do hope that you can make it for what is sure to be a fabulous night and a great way to thank you for your support and round out the year in style!
Yours in golf,
Golf Team
A Splash in the sand
By Steve Fawcitt, PGA Teaching Professional, Slaley Hall.
When I talk through a client’s goals at the start of a bunker lesson a common response will be “I just want to get it out” or “the key to good bunker play is staying out of them, right?”.
In comparison Tour Professionals are trying to hole out if they have a decent lie, last year on the PGA Tour the best player got up and down 65% of the time. So why is there such a difference in attitude towards these particular shots?

Is putting overrated?
By Lee Morrisroe, PGA Teaching Professional, Oulton Hall.
Putting is often valued as the most important part of the game of golf, the only difference between winning and losing. I had the same option when anyone asked me why Tiger used to win so often, I answered with “because he is the best putter in the world”. I found this to be the answer by everyone I spoke to about Tiger. However with the new stokes gained approach to statistics, this has been proven to be not the whole truth.

Why isn’t my child getting better?
By Thomas Devine, PGA Teaching Professional, Oulton Hall
I was having a conversation with a parent a couple of weeks ago who was expressing concern over why their child did not seem to be improving. The child in question was under 10, been playing the game for around 2 years, and has seen dramatic improvements over summer 2015. Despite the weather, the child is still playing a lot of golf and to the concern of the parent does not seem to be progressing at the same rate as previously.
It was after a 30 minute conversation with this parent that I decided I should write an article to discuss some of the points we talked about as it wasn’t the first time I had encountered this. It is often only human nature to want to see your child continually progressing however this isn’t always the story; but more importantly, it is certainly NOT a problem.
